RAJOURI MAY 15:-Recently, the Pakistan Army shelled areas along the Line of Control (LoC) and even in-depth regions, including Rajouri Township — locations that were previously considered safe and beyond the reach of Pakistani artillery.
Using drones, the Pakistan Army targeted these otherwise secure areas. In response to the growing vulnerability of border regions to cross-border shelling and to ensure the safety of civilians living near the LoC, the Rajouri administration has constituted ward-wise teams to identify suitable land for the construction of community bunkers.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma (IAS), chaired a meeting on Thursday and directed these ward-level teams under respective municipal bodies to identify feasible government or community-owned land for constructing community bunkers or underground shelters.
These teams have been instructed to conduct extensive field visits within their wards and gather community input during there identification process. They are also expected to consult with religious leaders and members of civil society to ensure wider participation and consensus in the selection of land.
Each team must submit a brief report within two days, supported by GPS coordinates, photographs, and documentation on the land status, to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
To ensure timely execution, the Executive Officer of the respective Municipal Committee will monitor daily progress. The overall coordination and compilation of the data will be supervised by the concerned Additional Deputy Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner of Revenue, Rajouri.
This proactive initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to safeguarding civilian lives and enhancing emergency preparedness in the border region.
