JAMMU, SEPT 03:- Traffic Police Rural Jammu has registered an FIR against the driver of a passenger auto for allegedly carrying passengers far beyond the permitted seating capacity, posing a serious risk to their safety.
During routine checking at Dhar Road near Kandharnoo in Tehsil Ramkot, Traffic Police intercepted a TATA Magic passenger vehicle bearing registration number JK08J-7968, which was travelling from Rajwalta towards Gujroo Nagrota.
The vehicle, driven by Mohit Kumar, son of Mohinder Kumar, resident of Rajwalta, was found carrying 17 passengers against the permitted capacity of eight, meaning nine passengers were in excess.
According to Traffic Police, the vehicle had also been challaned three times earlier for overloading. Taking serious note of the repeated violation, FIR No. 180/2026 under Sections 281/125 BNS was registered against the driver at Police Station Billawar, Kathua.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic Rural Jammu, Farooq Qaiser, said the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities for cancellation of the vehicle’s Registration Certificate as well as the driving licence of the driver.
He urged vehicle owners and drivers to strictly comply with the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules, warning that stringent action will continue against those found violating safety norms.
