SHAHJAHANPUR, JUNE 13:-A 21-year-old NEET aspirant from Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district has been detained for allegedly impersonating a Brigadier in the Indian Army and falsely claiming to be the country’s youngest officer of that rank.
The accused, identified as Aryan Verma, a resident of the Roza area of Shahjahanpur, allegedly misled family members, neighbours and local residents by claiming that he was serving as a Brigadier posted at the Command Hospital in Chandigarh.
According to investigators, Verma maintained the deception by wearing the uniform of a senior Army officer, carrying forged identity documents and travelling in a rented SUV fitted with military insignia. Authorities said he projected himself as a high-ranking Army officer for several months.
The alleged impersonation came under scrutiny after Army officials and retired servicemen received complaints about a very young man publicly presenting himself as a Brigadier. Acting on the information, a sting operation was organised at the Shaheed Sangrahalaya inside Shahjahanpur Cantonment, where Verma was invited as the chief guest for a programme.
Officials said he arrived at the venue in full Army uniform accompanied by hired security personnel, following which he was detained. During the operation, authorities reportedly recovered forged documents, a fake Brigadier identity card and other items linked to the alleged impersonation.
Police are preparing a case under relevant legal provisions and have launched an investigation into how the accused obtained the uniform, forged documents, military insignia and security arrangements.
Authorities stated that no major financial fraud has been detected so far, and preliminary investigations suggest that the alleged motive behind the impersonation was social prestige and public recognition.
