RAJOURI, JUNE 12:-A large number of youth and social activists staged a peaceful protest outside Government Medical College (GMC) Associated Hospital Rajouri, raising several demands concerning the death of Nusrat Jahan and the functioning of the hospital administration.
The protesters demanded strict action against the doctors allegedly involved in the treatment of Nusrat Jahan, whose death has sparked widespread concern across Rajouri district. They urged the authorities to fix responsibility and take appropriate action against those found guilty after a fair and transparent investigation.
The demonstrators also demanded that a judicial inquiry be initiated into the death case, maintaining that only an independent probe would ensure justice and restore public confidence in the healthcare system.
Another major demand raised during the protest was the transfer of doctors who, according to the protesters, have been serving in Rajouri for more than two decades. They argued that prolonged postings at one station adversely affect transparency and accountability.
Carrying placards and raising slogans, the protesters appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir administration to address their concerns at the earliest. They maintained that their agitation was peaceful and aimed solely at seeking justice and improving accountability in public healthcare institutions.
The protesters further alleged that individuals and social activists who raise their voices against alleged medical negligence are being targeted through police action. They claimed that a protest was also held in Kotranka on Thursday against the GMC authorities, following which police registered an FIR against social activist and PDP leader Guftar Choudhary and others.
They also referred to a recent FIR registered against social activist Feroz Khan, who had reportedly raised concerns regarding alleged negligence in the Gynecology Ward of GMC Rajouri.
The protesters alleged that whenever social activists highlight issues related to alleged negligence by doctors, they face legal action, and claimed that the Resident Doctors Association has been exerting pressure through threats of protests and dharnas. These allegations could not be independently verified.
The protesters warned that if their demands are not addressed and an impartial inquiry is not initiated, they may intensify their agitation in the coming days. The allegations regarding FIRs, negligence, and pressure by any association should be presented as claims of the protesters unless independently verified.
