RAJOURI, JUNE 04:- Traffic Police (Rural) Jammu intensified its enforcement against violations of transport regulations by registering two separate FIRs against operators of public service vehicles found violating route permit norms on the Jammu–Poonch Highway (NH-144A).
During a special checking drive conducted at Salani Bridge, Rajouri, officials intercepted a passenger bus bearing registration number JK02DP-8989 while it was travelling from Poonch towards Jammu. During inspection, the driver produced a photocopy of a route permit claiming authorization for the Poonch–Jammu route. However, verification from the concerned Regional Transport Office (RTO) revealed that the permit was allegedly forged. Authorities found that the original permit was issued for the Jammu–Banihal route and not for operation on the Poonch–Jammu sector.
Following the verification, the vehicle was seized and the driver detained. Police Station Rajouri registered FIR No. 291/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
In another case, a bus bearing registration number JK02DK-0502, operating on the same route, was stopped during the drive. The driver failed to produce a valid route permit. Subsequent verification confirmed that the vehicle was allegedly operating without authorization on the Poonch–Jammu route. Officials also reported that the driver did not comply with lawful directions issued during the checking process.
The vehicle was seized, the driver detained, and FIR No. 292/2026 was registered at Police Station Rajouri under relevant provisions of the BNS and Motor Vehicles Act.
Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic (Rural) Jammu, Farooq Qaiser, said that recommendations would be made to the competent authorities for cancellation of the route permits of the vehicles involved and suspension of the driving licences of the concerned drivers. He reiterated that Traffic Police would continue strict enforcement against violations of transport laws to ensure passenger safety and compliance with legal regulations.
The special drive forms part of ongoing efforts by Traffic Police to curb illegal operation of public transport vehicles and ensure adherence to route permit conditions across the region.
