RAJOURI, APRIL 05:-Demonstrating a strong grassroots connect, Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, conducted a public outreach programme in the remote Bassali area of Doongi block in Rajouri district on Sunday.
The visit, set amidst the picturesque hills and dense forests inhabited predominantly by tribal communities, highlighted the government’s continued focus on addressing the concerns of people living in border and far-flung regions.
The outreach camp witnessed active participation from locals, who used the platform to openly share the challenges they face in their daily lives. Key issues raised included inadequate drinking water supply, frequent power disruptions, poor road connectivity, and limited access to healthcare and education facilities.
Interacting directly with residents, the Minister listened attentively to their grievances and acknowledged the hardships faced by communities residing near the Line of Control (LoC). He emphasized that these concerns go beyond administrative issues and are closely linked to the dignity and well-being of the people.
Rana assured the gathering that all genuine demands would be addressed on priority, with a commitment to improving basic infrastructure and public service delivery in the region.
Residents also highlighted several pressing needs, including construction of additional bunkers for safety, upgradation of Government Middle School Bassali, improved water supply, and better emergency healthcare services, particularly ambulance availability. Concerns regarding delays in development projects due to forest clearance procedures were also raised.
The locals further demanded grant of tehsil status to Doongi, strengthening of border road infrastructure, establishment of a veterinary centre, and construction of a girls’ hostel to support education. They also called for expedited implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission works and upgrading of Sub Centre Bassali to a Primary Health Centre.
Among other proposals were the construction of the Thatyali–Challas road, enhancement of tourism potential, and improved public transport connectivity through JKSRTC services.
A notable suggestion from the community was the development of a “Van Nagar” in Doongi block, aimed at creating a sustainable model settlement that integrates tribal livelihoods with forest conservation.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring last-mile governance, particularly in tribal and border areas. He assured that all issues raised would be taken up with concerned departments for timely redressal.
He also urged the people to actively participate in various government welfare schemes, noting that awareness and community involvement are crucial for inclusive development.
Highlighting the economic potential of the region, Rana directed officials from the Horticulture and Animal Husbandry departments to prepare customized plans to boost income through horticulture and livestock-based activities.
Earlier, departmental representatives briefed the gathering about various welfare initiatives and encouraged residents to avail themselves of available benefits.
Reaffirming the government’s vision of inclusive growth, the Minister stressed the need for a responsive administration that respects the aspirations of tribal communities and ensures that development reaches every corner, regardless of its remoteness.
The programme was attended by MLA Rajouri Iftkhar Ahmed, MLA Thanamandi Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, ADDC Rajouri Malik Zada Sheraz-ul-Haq, and senior officers from various departments.
