JAMMU, JUNE 30:-The Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference (JK-BADC), a registered organisation working for the welfare of border residents, has expressed serious concern over the poor state of Public Transport system in border district Poonch.
The organisation said the lack of adequate and reliable transport facilities has been causing immense hardship to students, employees, patients, senior citizens and other residents of remote villages.
BADC Chairman and former Vice Chancellor, Dr. Shazad Ahmed Malik, said the public transport system in Poonch is in an abysmal state and no longer meets the basic mobility needs of the people. He observed that many villages remain poorly connected, while the limited number of buses and passenger vehicles often results in overcrowding, long waiting hours and unnecessary inconvenience for daily commuters.
The BADC Chairman said that efficient public transport is a basic necessity and plays a vital role in ensuring access to education, healthcare, employment and other essential services. He pointed out that people living in border and hilly areas are among the worst affected, as they are frequently left with no dependable means of transportation.
Urging the Jammu and Kashmir Government and the Transport Department to take immediate corrective measures, Dr. Shazad called for the introduction of additional bus services, improved connectivity to remote areas, rationalisation of transport routes and regular monitoring of transport operations to ensure affordable, safe and reliable services.
The BADC organization called for strengthening the public transport network would significantly improve the quality of life of the people and contribute to the socio-economic development of the border district. It expressed hope that the authorities would take prompt and effective steps to address the issue in the larger public interest.
