SRINAGAR, JUNE 16:– Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday laid the foundation stones for two major sewerage infrastructure projects in Srinagar aimed at strengthening wastewater management and improving urban sanitation.
The projects include a 2.5 MLD (Million Litres per Day) Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Chattabal and the augmentation of the existing 17.08 MLD STP at Brarinambal. The initiatives are expected to significantly enhance the city’s wastewater treatment capacity and support environmental conservation efforts.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that strengthening sewerage infrastructure is essential for ensuring better sanitation, safeguarding water bodies, and improving public health. He emphasized that the projects will play a key role in creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Srinagar.
Officials said the upgraded facilities will help meet the growing wastewater treatment requirements of the city, reduce pollution, and contribute to the protection of Srinagar’s fragile aquatic ecosystem.
The projects form part of the government’s broader efforts to modernize urban infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents across the Kashmir Valley.
