JAMMU FEBRUARY 28:-In a moment that will be etched forever in the annals of domestic cricket, the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team secured their maiden Ranji Trophy title in the 2025–26 season, overcoming the formidable Karnataka cricket team in a pulsating final. Though the five-day summit clash concluded in a draw, J&K’s emphatic first-innings advantage proved decisive in crowning them champions.
After electing to bat, J&K delivered a commanding performance with the willow, piling up a formidable 584 in their first innings. The foundation of this imposing total was laid by a masterful 121 from Shubham Pundir, whose patience and precision steadied the innings at crucial junctures.
Karnataka’s reply faltered under relentless pressure, folding for 293. Speedster Auqib Nabi turned the game on its head with a sensational five-wicket haul, handing J&K a massive 291-run lead. Despite a valiant 160 from experienced batter Mayank Agarwal, Karnataka struggled to build partnerships and were unable to bridge the gap.
Sensing an opportunity to tighten their grip, J&K continued their dominance in the second innings. Centuries from Qamran Iqbal and Sahil Lotra further swelled the lead to a daunting 633 runs, leaving Karnataka with an insurmountable task.
With time running out and the match ending without a result, Jammu & Kashmir were declared champions by virtue of their superior first-innings score — a milestone achievement that signals the arrival of a new force in Indian domestic cricket. This landmark victory reflects the team’s grit, unity, and growing stature on the national stage.
