DELAY IN APPOINTMENT OF VICE CHANCELLOR OF BGSB UNIVERSITY IRKS SEARCH COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Poonch, November : –Search Committee Constituted for the appointment of Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri has come under scathing attack for making a mockery of the entire selection process and flagrantly violating UGC norms and calling ineligible and tainted candidates for the Interaction. Amongst two very serious irregularities include the case of one such candidate who is presently Controller of Examination in Central University of Kashmir, who has never served any university and only served as Principal of a B.Ed. College Services where the designation of the candidate was only Associate Professor until a couple of years back before getting appointed in Central University of Kashmir after retirement. As per UGC norms and as per advertisement ten years of experience as Professor is required to apply for the position of Vice Chancellor. Further, it is pertinent to mention that one of the members of the Search Committee is the close relative of the above mentioned candidate. This is a clear cut case of CONFLICT OF INTEREST.
Another candidate, Mohd Asger Gazi, from BGSBU who is currently suspended vide order no. BGSBU/REG/20/ 4033 dated 18/07/2020 and also charge sheeted because the charges of enormous financial corruption was surprisingly called for interaction by the Search Committee. One wonders what was the compulsion of calling such a tainted candidate with a dismal academic record and much talked about fraudulent appointment as Reader and Professor during the tenure of the first Vice Chancellor which was widely reported in the media. The news of his suspension and rampant corruption indulged in by him was recently the headlines of almost all the newspapers of the JK UT and the country.
It has also been learnt that that many heavy weight candidates with impeccable academic and administrative experience and sizeable contribution in academics and administration were ignored and not invited for interaction with the search Committee in comparison to those who have only ordinary achievements to their credit but were apparently close to some powerful members of the Search Committee. This raised serious concerns about the credibility of the Search Committee and authenticity of whole selection process.
Taking serious note of the developments and controversies, the Hon’ble LG Jammu and Kashmir who has so far been known to follow high standards of probity in public institution has put the recommended panel of the Search Committee on hold and directed the outgoing Vice Chancellor of BGSBU to handover the charge to Vice Chancellor of SMVDU.
Now with this apprehension that their recommended blue eyed candidate may not be appointed by the Lt. Governor who has exhibited zero tolerance to any malpractice, seemed to have irked Search committee members. A campaign has now been launched on social media through a Joint Registrar of Kashmir University who earlier served as Registrar in BGSB University advocating early appointment of Vice Chancellor. The said Joint Registrar is commenting on social media as if the Chairman of Search Committee and the whole selection process of selection of Vice Chancellor of BGSBU is functioning under his control.
