The bill, aimed at the regularisation of daily wage workers who have served for decades without permanent status, was raised by Waheed Para of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA. During the discussion, several Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) reportedly expressed support for the demand, highlighting the long-pending plight of daily wagers across the Union Territory.
However, the government declined to pass the bill, prompting strong objection from PDP legislators. Following the rejection, PDP MLAs staged a walkout from the Assembly in protest, accusing the government of ignoring the concerns of thousands of workers.

The situation escalated during the proceedings, with allegations of heated exchanges between treasury and opposition benches. PDP members criticized the Chief Minister’s conduct, claiming that remarks made during the debate were “rude and unbecoming,” further intensifying tensions inside the House.

The issue of regularisation of daily wagers has remained a sensitive and long-standing concern in Jammu and Kashmir, with workers repeatedly demanding job security, fair wages, and recognition of their years of service.

Political observers believe the development may further fuel debate over labour rights and governance priorities in the region, as affected workers continue to await a concrete resolution.
