SRINAGAR, MAY 11:- A fresh political storm has erupted in Jammu and Kashmir after Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah Mehdi launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over his remarks regarding the liquor ban issue and rising taxation policies in Kashmir.
Reacting strongly to the Chief Minister’s statement, Aga Ruhullah termed the remarks “arrogant, insensitive and completely illogical,” accusing the government of ignoring public sentiment and placing additional financial burden on the people of Kashmir.
“The very Chief Minister whom we helped bring to power with the support and trust of the people of Jammu and Kashmir is now burdening the people of Kashmir with taxes instead of providing relief,” Ruhullah said while criticizing the administration’s approach.
The MP alleged that the present government has failed to understand the aspirations and emotions of the people and is instead pursuing policies that are hurting the common masses. He said that people expected governance, relief and accountability, but are now witnessing what he described as “disconnect, arrogance and economic pressure.”
Ruhullah further maintained that issues linked to public morality, social concerns and economic hardship cannot be brushed aside with “casual and irresponsible statements.” He asserted that the voices of the people of Kashmir cannot be ignored and warned that public anger is growing over policies affecting daily life.
The remarks have intensified political debate across Jammu and Kashmir, with opposition voices and civil society circles reacting strongly to the ongoing controversy surrounding liquor policy and taxation in the Union Territory.
