KUPWARA FEBRUARY 24:-In line with its pan-India uniform Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the State Bank of India (SBI) on Tuesday carried out a significant menstrual hygiene awareness and infrastructure drive across Kupwara district through its Handwara and Kupwara branches.
As part of the initiative, SBI distributed a total of 10 sanitary napkin incinerators and 2,000 sanitary hygiene kits to government educational and healthcare institutions to promote menstrual hygiene, safe disposal practices, and improved sanitation facilities for adolescent girls and women.
The distribution included:
Government Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Kupwara: 4 sanitary napkin incinerators and 800 hygiene kits
Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Handwara: 2 sanitary napkin incinerators and 400 hygiene kits
Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Langate: 2 sanitary napkin incinerators and 400 hygiene kits
Government Girls High School, Super Naghama, Qaziabad: 2 sanitary napkin incinerators and 400 hygiene kits
Branch Managers and staff members of SBI Handwara and SBI Kupwara were present during the programme. They interacted with students, healthcare workers, and faculty members, highlighting the importance of menstrual hygiene awareness, environmentally safe disposal mechanisms, and the role of proper sanitation facilities in ensuring health, dignity, and uninterrupted education for girl students.
Officials stated that the initiative is part of SBI’s national CSR framework, being implemented uniformly across the country to create consistent and large-scale social impact. By focusing on menstrual hygiene management, the programme addresses a critical yet often neglected area of public health and gender equality.
Reaffirming its commitment to community development, public health, and education, SBI officials said such CSR interventions are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to health, education, sanitation, and gender equality.
Through sustained, need-based initiatives, SBI continues to play a proactive role in empowering communities and strengthening grassroots social infrastructure.
