While travelling my journey today afternoon from home town to jammu to join here tomorrow as Addl. Distt & sessions judge, I was bit nostalgic, going back to twenty two yrs , whn i travelled my return journey from Aligarh to jammu after completing my LL.B from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) – my Alma mater . I was just recollecting & comparing my impressions then & now .
Way back in 1997 , at the threshold of my career , I entered the city of jammu as a young lawyer vd immense dreams coupled vd uncontrolled flow of emotions & enthusiasm to do something XTRA- ordinary . However, I entered this city as an un known figure vd no knowledge evn of it’s routes & roads ; a complete stranger vd negligible acquaintance xcpt of a relative hvng no concern vd the institution I joined. The more lacking was lack of any family background or a popular examples of the region to follow in this field at state level & the only career worth to b adorned & aspired for by the youngesters of the area was – to b a doctor / engineer or at the most to aspire for KAS. In the midst of this lacklustre complexion of the legal profession in my region , I joined it at apex level in jammu. The couplet vch I was oftenly reciting thn while addressing my multifold questions was ::

Rasta dushwar Tur hai aur anjana safar.
Kaisay tai hoga illahi mujsai ye begana safar

And finally wt moulded me to survive in ds profession vd cut throat competition was an autobiography captioned * *ROSES IN DECEMBER* vch I accidently got , authored by one of the outstanding jurist of the country – *M. C. CHAGLA* who happened to b the junior of Mohd Ali jinnah. The most striking line or the bottom line of the book was – *Life at the bar is not bed of the roses*.
Without spelling out more details of my 22 yrs long journey in ds profession & my transition from lawyer to judge after qualifying higher judicial services by setting record of scoring distinction in written examination ,
I simply put that today I entered the same city as it’s judge at senior sessions judge levl. *Thanx Almighty Allah*
Though absolutely not a big deal to b celebrated nd exulted , but in the context I put vd no inspiring background of ds profession , it ofcourse inspired many from my area to join this profession having a deep & wider impact on the society . And my humble message to my juniors is that this profession where only writ of competence is key to success , what inevitably requires is three C’s (3 C’s) – *Comptence , commitment and consistency* .
Though , still a long way to go , but this more than two decades long journey was very tough , replete vd lot of intersting & some heart wrenching anecdotes & xperiences worth to b penned & preserved at one stage of my life. Briefly put , one must tread his life journey in such a fashion that at the twilight of it he must have something to share vd ors , a memoir vch is takn as source of inspiration by younger generation. Bcoz Fred Allen has said & I quote
*You only live once . But if you work it right , once is enough*
(TAHIR KHURSHID RAINA)
