SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital ,Kakryal Celebrated Infection Control Month

Udhampur ,June 04:-  The Ever-growing menace of Hospital acquired infection is gradually acquiring gigantic proportion.Recognizing this, the SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital ,Kakryal celebrated the month of May as Hospital Infection control Month. This was primarily aimed at reinforcing and increasing awareness towards prevention of Hospital acquired Infection, not only  among the hospital staff but also patient relatives and  other  people. The specific areas covered included ,the paramount importance of Hand Hygiene at all times, preventions of Surgical Site Infection, Prevention of Catheter related Blood stream and Urinary tract infection, increasing antibiotics resistance etc.
Programme was inauragted by Facility Director MrDattretreya K.S. and Chairperson Hospital Infection committee Dr J.P.Singh and Medical Superintendent Dr Saumya Ahuja.
Various activities carried out during the month included-a lecture byHospital Infection Control officer Dr Beena Jad, for patient attendants and relatives on best practices for controlling spread of infection in Hospital and at Homes. There wasa chartcompetition for nursing and other staff in the theme of “Preventions of Hospital acquired infection”. A Quiz competition was organized between various department covering infection control policies and practices.
The Month long program culminated with an interactive session moderated by Dr J.P.Singh , Senior consultant Neurosurgery and Infection Control Committee Chairperson, between the Hospital consultants on need and effective enforcement of an antimicrobial stewardship program- a coordinated program that will promote the appropriate use of antimicrobial , improve patient outcome and reduce microbial resistance and decrease spread of infection caused by multi-drug resistance organism.
Dr. (Brig.) ManMohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer of the Hospital stated that preventing infection is our number one goal. Whether it be in a outpatient Department, emergency room or long-term care facility. Our all health care professionals play a significant role in influencing the patient`s health and safety at SMVDNSH.
This was followed by felicitation and prize distribution by Medical Superintendent Dr Saumya Ahuja to winner of all competitions and other workers for their commendable work on infection preventions.
Dr J.P.Singh Chairperson HICC Committee also thanked and appreciated Dr Beena Jad Micrbiologist and Infection control officer, Mr Sukhwinder Paul Singh and Ms Shama Infection Control Nurses, Mr Pawan Duggal Unit Quality Head for tireless and excellent work for making the infection control month a great success.
