SRINAGAR FEBRUARY 18:-The Shaher-e-Khaas Traders and Chambers (SKT&C), under the leadership of its Chairman Bashir Ahmad Kanu, has strongly appealed to the Jammu & Kashmir administration, the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), and the Jal Shakti Department to ensure uninterrupted essential services during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement issued after a meeting of the Chamber, Chairman Bashir Ahmad Kanu said that the people of Srinagar have high expectations from the current administration and should not face hardships such as unscheduled power cuts and water shortages during the sacred month.
The Chamber demanded that KPDCL strictly avoid any power curtailment, particularly during the crucial hours of Sehri and Iftar. “Uninterrupted electricity during these hours is a basic necessity for every household observing the fast,” the Chairman stated. While acknowledging the reported 34 percent power deficit in the region, SKT&C urged the authorities to prevent arbitrary and unscheduled outages that disrupt domestic life as well as evening business activities in the historic markets of Downtown.
The Chamber also called upon the Jal Shakti (PHE) Department to ensure adequate water pressure, especially during peak morning and evening hours. In areas prone to shortages, SKT&C requested the immediate deployment of mobile water tankers to prevent inconvenience to residents.
Chairman Bashir Ahmad Kanu further appealed to the Power Development Department to keep Emergency Response Teams on standby to promptly address transformer or feeder faults and prevent prolonged blackouts.
“Shaher-e-Khaas is the soul of Srinagar. We expect that this year, the administration’s assurances will translate into stable electricity and regular water supply on the ground. The common man should not have to struggle for basic amenities while fulfilling religious obligations,” he said.
The Shaher-e-Khaas Traders and Chambers also urged the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir and the Chief Engineer of KPDCL to personally monitor the supply situation to ensure a smooth and hassle-free Ramadan for the people.
