SRINAGAR JUNE 10:-Senior migrant leader and former Sarpanch of Akingam, Nanajee Wattal, today called on JKPCC President Jenab Tariq Hameed Karra at his Shivpora, Srinagar residence to extend Eid-ul-Azha greetings.
During the interaction, Nanajee Wattal apprised Karra Sahib of the numerous challenges faced by Kashmiri Pandits residing in Jammu and outside the Union Territory. A threadbare discussion was held regarding their long-pending demands and the necessary steps required for their resolution.
Wattal raised serious concerns about the pending enhancement of cash relief, a welfare measure initially introduced during the Congress-led government. He expressed disappointment that while the BJP made grand promises, it has failed to deliver tangible results since 2014. He alleged that the BJP has merely used migrant Pandits as a political tool to garner support in the rest of the country, without addressing their core issues.
“Instead of fulfilling their commitments, the BJP government has severely curtailed our ration entitlements, with many families witnessing a reduction in the number of members listed on their ration cards. This has left a significant portion of our community deprived of essential relief,” Wattal stated.
He praised the Special Prime Minister’s Employment Package for Migrants, initiated under former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, noting that it provided a lifeline for educated youth from the migrant community. Wattal urged for the expansion of this scheme to include professional fields such as medicine, engineering, and other skilled sectors, and called for job recruitment through bodies like JKPSC to accommodate deserving professionals of Kashmiri migrants۔
Nanajee Wattal also demanded immediate amnesty and rectification of ration card issues in NCR and Jammu regions to ensure that distressed migrant families, many of whom have been abandoned by their relatives, are not left to suffer.
JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra assured Wattal that all genuine concerns of the migrant community will be raised with the appropriate authorities. He reaffirmed that the Congress Party has always stood in solidarity with Kashmiri Pandits, considering them an integral part of the state’s diverse fabric.
