Rising literacy rate in JKUT despite of 3 decades of unfavorable conditions, results of best efforts of teachers: Tantray

Government teachers cannot be held responsible for low enrollment and growing trend of private schools education

Srinagar, December 29 : Despite of three decades of unfavourable conditions the literacy rate in Jammu and Kashmir ( UT) has increased significantly after the hard work and best efforts of teaching and non-teaching staff of education depart in Centrally administered Jammu and Kashmir. In order to get the scattered education system back on track by unlocking the rusty locks of many closed schools and increased the literacy rate, the teachers recruited under the rehabar-e-taleem (RET) scheme at a meager monthly salary of Rs 1500 to 3000 played a valuable role which is obvious to all said Farooq Ahmed Tantray Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Rahbar-e – taleem teachers forum ( JKRETTF) in a statement issued to the press.
According to a statement issued by the forum spokesperson , the forum chairman said that teachers alone could not be blamed for low enrollment in low enrollment schools of JKUT.
Forum chairman FA Tantray said that increasing registration and mushroom growth of private schools, no uniform curriculum, lack of infrastructure, non availability of KG classes and xtra curricular facilities in schools , low pupil teacher ratio in many schools, non availability of buildings of many newly created schools ,opening of private schools neare to the government schools are some main reasons for low enrollment in these schools across the JKUT.
He said that after seeing the children of elite class studying in private schools, maximum middle class are now to send their wards to local private schools to compete with them and now it become fashion of the day.
Forum Chairman appeals administration that all government employees should be required to bound to enroll their children in government schools so that the considered special status mind set of private schools can be abolished. He further said that government teachers played a great role during the recent covid -19 lockdown through online education and community classes and are committed to provide quality and better education to the students in government schools where the maximum students are comming from poor background or are first generation learners.
He said that Many schools have been closed down or clubbed with other schools during the previous governments and teachers of these schools were deployed in clubbed schools or deputes on rationalization bases where they are performing their duties, he said and adding that those teachers are performing their duties in these schools where they has been assigned or deployed on rationalization basis and today asking them for enrollment is beyond the thinking .
Tantray further said that besides promoting education, various schemes launched by the government for education are being implemented on grassroots level by the teachers working on ground. He said that teachers community is against the corruption and always played a great role in UT other than their assigned teaching duties,their services has been utilizes wherever required by the administration time to time.
Tantray said that under the recent announced new education policy measures have been taken by the government to compete the government schools with other schools,like starting of Kg classes in government schools, stress on vocational education,betterment in school infrastructure etc definitely can help to increase the enrollment in low enrolled schools.
Forum Chairman appeals to LG administration that teachers should be deployed in schools as per pupil teacher ratio ( PTR) so the students community can not suffer any more and the expectations attached with the teachers can be fulfilled he said.
