RAJOURI MAY 15:-In a moment of immense pride for Jammu and Kashmir and the nation, young boxing sensation Mohd Yasser from Rajouri scripted history by winning the Gold Medal in the 58 kg category at the Under-15 Asian Boxing Championship held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Representing India on the international stage, Yasser displayed exceptional grit, skill, and composure throughout the championship. In a thrilling final bout, he edged past Uzbekistan’s Abdulloh Karimjonov with a narrow 3:2 victory to clinch the prestigious Asian title.
Earlier in the tournament, Yasser had delivered a commanding performance against Iran’s Seyyedariyamohammad Mousa, securing a dominant 5:0 win on May 10 and announcing himself as one of India’s brightest young boxing talents.
A resident of Rajouri district and a student of Government Boys Model Higher Secondary School Rajouri, Yasser’s achievement has brought laurels to the Pir Panjal region and inspired aspiring athletes across Jammu and Kashmir.
Recognising his outstanding feat, Principal Mohammad Muslim Wani announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for the young champion.
Behind the glittering medal lies a story of struggle, sacrifice, and determination. Yasser lost his father several years ago and was raised by his mother, Nasim Akhtar, a domestic worker who worked tirelessly to support the family despite limited means. Undeterred by hardships, Yasser remained focused on his dream and carved his path to glory through relentless hard work and discipline.
Training at the Khelo India Boxing Centre, Rajouri, Yasser honed his talent under the guidance of his lifelong mentor and coach, Ishtiyaq Malik, Head Coach at the centre. Under Malik’s mentorship, the young boxer transformed into a fearless and technically sound fighter, winning five consecutive bouts on his way to the Asian crown.
Expressing joy over his son’s achievement, Yasser’s mother said his dedication and perseverance had finally borne fruit, making the family and the entire region proud.
The District Administration of Rajouri also congratulated the young boxer, stating:
“Heartiest congratulations to Yasser for clinching the Asian Boxing Championship title and making Rajouri proud on the international stage. Your grit, passion, and hard work have scripted history and inspired an entire generation. Keep shining, champion.”

From the rugged hills of Rajouri to the summit of Asian boxing, Mohd Yasser’s inspiring journey stands as a shining example of courage, resilience, and determination.
