Poonch Defeats Baramulla 3–0 in Thrilling Final; Tournament Organised Under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

POONCH, SEPT, 23:-The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Poonch, successfully organised the Inter-District UT-Level U-14 Boys Hockey Tournament at Poonch under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, with young hockey players from different districts of Jammu & Kashmir participating with great enthusiasm, discipline and sportsmanship.

The tournament culminated today in an exciting and highly competitive final between Poonch and Baramulla, in which the talented Poonch U-14 Boys Hockey Team registered a magnificent 3–0 victory over Baramulla to emerge as the UT-Level Champions.

The emphatic 3–0 victory marked a proud and memorable moment for District Poonch. The young Poonch players displayed excellent hockey skills, determination, teamwork, discipline and fighting spirit throughout the final. Their impressive performance earned them the championship title and brought immense pride and joy to the players, coaches, parents, Physical Education Teachers and the entire sports fraternity of District Poonch.

The final witnessed an enthusiastic atmosphere as both teams showcased quality hockey and competitive spirit. Poonch maintained its composure and produced an outstanding performance to secure a convincing 3–0 win, while Baramulla finished as the runner-up.

The closing ceremony was graced by Mushtaq Ahmed, Manager, Sports Stadium Poonch, as the Chief Guest. He presented trophies, medals and certificates to the winning and runner-up teams and felicitated the young players for their outstanding performances.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Poonch, for providing a meaningful platform to young athletes and promoting sports at the grassroots level. He also lauded the dedicated efforts of the ZPEOs, PELs, PEMs, PETs, Rehbar-e-Khel (ReK) teachers, NYCs and Groundmen, whose outstanding contribution, teamwork and tireless efforts played an important role in the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament.

He congratulated the Poonch U-14 Boys Hockey Team for their remarkable achievement and encouraged the young players to continue working hard, maintain discipline and aim for higher levels of competition. He further appreciated the Department for organising sporting activities that keep youth engaged in positive pursuits and reinforce the broader message of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan — “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Sports.”

The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports has constituted a Selection Committee to identify and select the UT-Level U-14 Hockey Team through a fair and transparent selection process for participation at the National Level. The selection process will provide deserving young players with an opportunity to represent Jammu & Kashmir at higher levels of competition.

The tournament also reflected the Department’s continued commitment towards creating a healthy, disciplined and sports-oriented environment for children and youth. Such events provide young players with valuable exposure, competitive experience and opportunities to showcase their talent at the UT level.

The entire programme was conducted under the overall supervision of DYSSO Poonch, Mohd Qasim, and Activity Incharge, Vijay Kumar Sharma, whose guidance and coordination contributed significantly to the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament.

The Department congratulated the Poonch U-14 Boys Hockey Team, coaches, Physical Education Teachers and all supporting staff for this outstanding achievement and expressed hope that the young champions will continue to bring laurels to District Poonch at higher levels of competition.
