POONCH APRIL 02:-In a proud moment for the region, the District Poonch Rugby Association marked a historic debut in the prestigious Asmita Rugby State League, showcasing remarkable talent and determination.
Affiliated with the Jammu & Kashmir Rugby Association and operating under the banner of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, the association fielded a team of 24 young girls in the Under-15 and Under-18 categories. The players displayed exceptional skill, discipline, and team spirit throughout the tournament.Under the dedicated coaching of Manzoor Ahmed Lone, Shabir Ahmed Malik, and Rayaz Ahmed Lone, the team delivered an impressive performance and successfully advanced to the quarterfinal stage—an achievement that marks a significant milestone for rugby in District Poonch.
This accomplishment highlights the growing interest and development of sports, particularly rugby, among young girls in the region. The performance has been widely appreciated as a positive step toward empowering youth through sports.
The District Poonch Rugby Association expressed gratitude to the Jammu & Kashmir Rugby Association for its continued support and encouragement. Special appreciation was extended to Irfan Aziz for his overall supervision and leadership in promoting rugby across the Union Territory.
