Poonch, May 06 :–People quarantined at a government set up facilitation centre protested against the district administration Poonch over lack of basic amenities.

Reports said that the quarantined people at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Mendhar include dozens of students from the area.

The locals alongside the students quarantined at the centre raised slogans, accusing the district administration of not providing them with hygienic food. They also complained of improper maintenance of the centre.

“We have been kept alongside labourers and passengers from outside the Jammu and Kashmir. We are exposed to a great sort of risk,” the students said.

“Despite the ongoing holy month of Ramadhan, we are not provided good food,” they alleged. “While the overall condition of the (quarantine) centre is highly dilapidated, we don’t even have proper bedding here.”

The protests continued for hours and were pacified by Naib Tehsildar Ashfaq Ahmad Fani, who, as per reports, assured of fulfilling the genuine demands of those quarantined in the centre on “priority basis”.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Tehsildar Mendhar Dr. Vikram Kumar told GNS that “there are fine facilities at the centre”.

“We will still see where the lapses crept and will fix them accordingly,” Dr. Vikram said. (GNS)
