POONCH FEBRUARY 28:-Under Operation Ghani, the Indian Army, in close coordination with local police authorities, successfully recovered and neutralized nine old and rusted unexploded shells near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Balnoi area of Mendhar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday.
According to official sources, the unexploded ordnance was detected during routine surveillance and area domination patrols conducted as part of ongoing security operations in the forward sector. Recognizing the potential danger posed by the deteriorated shells, security forces immediately secured and cordoned off the area to prevent any risk to civilians.
A specialized Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was promptly deployed to the site. Following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the team conducted a detailed technical assessment and carried out controlled neutralization of all nine shells. The operation was executed with precision and strict adherence to safety protocols, ensuring complete elimination of the threat.
Officials confirmed that no casualties or damage to property were reported during the operation. The timely and coordinated response not only averted a possible incident but also reinforced the overall security grid along the LoC.
The recovery and safe disposal of legacy unexploded ordnance underscore the continued vigilance and operational readiness maintained under Operation Ghani. The Indian Army and police remain steadfast in their commitment to safeguarding civilian lives and ensuring peace and stability in sensitive border areas.
