Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Awareness Programmes Held Across Schools in Poonch

POONCH FEBRUARY 05:-As part of the Government of India’s flagship Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the Department of Youth Services & Sports, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday organized a series of structured awareness programmes in various schools across District Poonch to educate students about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
The programmes were aimed at sensitizing students to the serious physical, psychological and social consequences of drug addiction, while fostering a collective resolve to build a drug-free society.
The initiative was conducted under the overall guidance of Ms Anuradha Gupta, JKAS, Director General, Youth Services & Sports, J&K, reflecting the department’s strong commitment to combating drug abuse through sustained awareness, youth engagement and sports-based interventions.
The activities were held under the administrative supervision of Ms Venakshi Koul, Joint Director, Youth Services & Sports, Jammu, and Ms Megha Baogia, Deputy Director (Activities), who emphasized the importance of early intervention, structured awareness mechanisms and active youth participation to effectively counter the growing menace of substance abuse.
At the district level, the programmes were coordinated by Mr Mohammad Qasim, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Poonch, ensuring smooth execution and enthusiastic participation from students and teaching staff. The sessions featured interactive discussions, awareness talks and motivational inputs highlighting the long-term adverse impact of drug addiction on individuals, families and society.
Officials reiterated that the Department of Youth Services & Sports is implementing a comprehensive preventive strategy by channelizing the energy of youth through organized sports, physical fitness initiatives and value-based activities, thereby reducing vulnerability to drugs and other social evils. Students were encouraged to adopt discipline, healthy lifestyles and sports as key elements of character building and responsible citizenship.
The programmes concluded with students and staff taking a collective pledge to uphold the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and to actively contribute towards building a healthy, drug-free and progressive society.
