SRINAGAR, JUNE 04:-Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, today called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, here at Lok Bhavanj.
During the meeting, they discussed a range of issues of public importance, with particular focus on concerns regarding the alleged targeted demolition drive affecting nomadic Gujjar-Bakerwal families in Jammu. Mr. Rana emphasized the need for a humane, sensitive and just approach in addressing issues concerning the marginalized tribal community.
The Forest Minister also highlighted the importance of ensuring the effective implementation of Forest Rights Act in Jammu & Kashmir to safeguard the rights and livelihoods of forest-dwelling tribal communities and other traditional forest dwellers. He stressed that the legislation has to be implemented in both letter and spirit to promote social justice and protect the interests of vulnerable sections living in forest areas.
