Massive Participation Marks Grand Success of Inter-School Zonal Competitions Across Poonch Under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

POONCH, MAY 11:- The Department of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS) Poonch successfully organized Inter-School Zonal Level Competitions across multiple zones of the district under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, witnessing overwhelming participation from students, officials, and local communities.

The competitions were conducted in Surankote, Poonch, Kanuyian, Mendhar, Bufliaz, and Harni zones with the aim of promoting sportsmanship, physical fitness, youth empowerment, and awareness against drug abuse. Thousands of students actively participated in various sporting disciplines, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for sports and healthy living among the youth of the district.

At Zone Surankote, the fourth day of competitions for U-14 Boys was held at GMS Hurmi Dhaki under the supervision of ZPEO Surankote. Around 837 students participated in Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Badminton, Chess, Yoga, and Athletics, displaying remarkable talent, discipline, and team spirit.
Similarly, Inter-School Zonal Level Competitions for U-14 Girls were organized successfully at Zone Poonch under the supervision of ZPEO Poonch, where nearly 447 girl students participated enthusiastically in various sports events.

At Zone Kanuyian, competitions for U-14 and U-17 Boys and Girls witnessed participation from around 89 students, while Zone Mendhar recorded an impressive participation of nearly 544 students in U-14 Girls competitions.

Zone Bufliaz also witnessed large-scale participation, with approximately 708 students taking part in U-14 Boys competitions under the supervision of ZPEO Bufliaz. Likewise, at Zone Harni, nearly 522 participants competed in U-14 and U-17 Boys and Girls events amid great excitement and enthusiasm.

A major highlight of the programme was the massive Awareness Rally organized under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which saw participation of nearly 3,985 individuals. Participants raised slogans against drug abuse and spread awareness about the importance of adopting a healthy, disciplined, and drug-free lifestyle.
The department also organized awareness activities focusing on social responsibility, discipline, moral values, and the role of sports in shaping a productive and healthy society.

The entire programme is being conducted under the guidance of Director General Youth Services & Sports J&K, Ms. Anuradha Gupta (JKAS), and under the supervision of Activity Director J&K, Ms. Megha Bhogia (JK&ES). At the district level, the events are being organized under the leadership of District Youth Services & Sports Officer Poonch, Mr. Mohd Qasim, while Mr. Vijay Kumar Sharma is serving as Activity Incharge.

The Zonal Physical Education Officers of Surankote, Kanuyian, Harni, Poonch, Mendhar, and Bufliaz, along with field staff, teachers, and officials, played a significant role in ensuring the smooth and disciplined conduct of all competitions and awareness programmes.

A pledge ceremony was also held during the events, where participants reaffirmed their commitment towards fair play, discipline, sportsmanship, and building a drug-free society.
The successful conduct of the Inter-School Zonal Level Competitions across Poonch district has emerged as a strong example of the Department’s continued commitment towards promoting sports culture, youth development, social awareness, and nation-building through positive engagement of young minds.
