POONCH MAY 13:-The Department of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS), Poonch, successfully organized Inter-School Zonal Level Competitions across Surankote, Mendhar, Poonch, Bufliaz, Mankote, and Harni zones under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, witnessing overwhelming participation from thousands of students across the district.
The mega sporting initiative aimed at promoting sportsmanship, youth empowerment, physical fitness, and awareness against drug abuse received an enthusiastic response from students, officials, teachers, and local communities alike.
At Zone Surankote, the fourth day of U-17 Boys competitions was held at Boys Higher Secondary School Surankote under the supervision of the Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZPEO) Surankote. The event was formally inaugurated by SHO Surankote, Syed Abid Hussain Shah, who attended as Chief Guest and appreciated the efforts of DYSS Poonch in promoting sports and youth development.
Addressing the participants, the SHO motivated students to actively engage in sports and delivered the message, “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Sports.”
Around 513 students participated in disciplines including Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Badminton, Chess, Yoga, and Athletics, displaying remarkable talent, discipline, and team spirit.
Simultaneously, Zone Poonch hosted U-14 Boys competitions with the participation of nearly 608 students, while Zone Mendhar recorded an impressive participation of around 658 students in U-14 Boys events.
At Zone Bufliaz, Inter-School Competitions for U-14 and U-17 Girls and Boys witnessed massive participation of approximately 939 students in various sporting disciplines.
Similarly, Zone Harni organized competitions for U-14 and U-17 Girls with nearly 288 participants, whereas Zone Mankote successfully conducted U-17 Girls and Boys competitions with around 545 students participating enthusiastically.
One of the major highlights of the programme was a massive Awareness Rally organized under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which witnessed participation of nearly 3,353 individuals. Participants raised slogans against drug abuse and promoted the message of fitness, discipline, and positive youth engagement.
The rally aimed to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction and encouraged youth to adopt a healthy and responsible lifestyle.
Besides sports competitions, several awareness programmes focusing on humanitarian values, discipline, public welfare, and social responsibility were also organized to educate students about the importance of sports in building a healthy and productive society.
The entire programme is being conducted under the guidance of Anuradha Gupta and the supervision of Megha Bhogia. At the district level, Mohd Qasim is leading the smooth execution of the events, while Vijay Kumar Sharma is overseeing the effective conduct of all activities.
The Zonal Physical Education Officers of Surankote, Harni, Poonch, Mendhar, Bufliaz, and Mankote, along with field staff and officials, played a significant role in ensuring the successful organization of competitions in a transparent, disciplined, and fair manner.
A pledge ceremony was also organized during the programme where participants reaffirmed their commitment towards sportsmanship, discipline, fair play, and the vision of a drug-free society.
The Department of Youth Services & Sports, Poonch, reiterated its commitment towards nurturing sports talent at the grassroots level and promoting the ideals of fitness, leadership, unity, and nation-building among the youth through such initiatives.
