LG Sinha Launches ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ Documentary, Collage Exhibition at University of Jammu

Calls for Collective Action Against Drug Abuse; Urges Students to Become Messengers and Guardians of Drug-Free J&K

 JAMMU, SEPT, 18 (KNC): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday launched a documentary and collage exhibition based on the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at the University of Jammu, calling for united efforts to combat drug abuse and safeguard the younger generation.

The initiative, organised by the University of Jammu, aims to strengthen awareness about the dangers of substance abuse while highlighting the importance of prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and social reintegration.

Addressing the gathering, LG Sinha said that recognising the reality and seriousness of drug abuse is the first step towards meaningful social change. He described substance abuse as a major challenge affecting families, communities and the future of young people in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the link between drug trafficking and narco-terrorism, stressing that disrupting drug supply networks is vital for protecting society as well as strengthening peace and security in the region.

‘Nasha Mukt J&K’ Campaign Emerges as People’s Movement

Recalling the launch of the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir campaign in 2020, LG Sinha said sustained public participation has helped strengthen the campaign over the years.

He said a comprehensive 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan was launched in April this year, expanding the campaign from formal programmes to villages, educational institutions, families and communities.

According to the Lieutenant Governor, padyatras, awareness drives, community outreach initiatives and administrative action have contributed to making the campaign a people-driven movement.

He appreciated the participation of women, youth clubs, teachers, doctors, civil society organisations and religious leaders, noting that their collective involvement has played an important role in spreading awareness and extending support to people affected by addiction.

LG Sinha Outlines Three-Pronged Strategy Against Drug Abuse

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted a three-pronged approach to tackle the menace of drugs:Dismantling drug supply chains.Creating widespread public awareness.Rehabilitation and socio-economic reintegration of victims

He also referred to the Rehabilitation and Socio-Economic Reintegration Scheme for Drug Abuse Victims, 2026, aimed at supporting affected youth in returning to mainstream society and leading healthy, productive and responsible lives.

“Education, awareness and compassion are our strongest weapons. Let us pledge to protect our youth, empower society, and build a healthier future,” LG Sinha said.

University of Jammu Initiative Appreciated

LG Sinha appreciated the University of Jammu for organising the documentary screening and collage exhibition and for creating an opportunity for students to understand the challenges associated with drug addiction and de-addiction.

He said the active participation of students reflects the important role educational institutions can play in addressing major social challenges.

“When knowledge connects with human sensitivity, it transforms into social responsibility,” the Lieutenant Governor said, while appreciating the faculty and students associated with the initiative.

Students Urged to Become Ambassadors of Drug-Free J&K

Calling upon students to play an active role in the campaign, LG Sinha urged them to become messengers, participants and guardians of the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan.

He encouraged students to engage with their peers, counter misconceptions surrounding drug addiction and extend support to individuals struggling with substance abuse.

The Lieutenant Governor stressed that awareness, family support, timely intervention and rehabilitation are essential for sustaining the fight against addiction.

Documentary to Be Screened Across Educational Institutions

LG Sinha said making educational campuses drug-free remains an important objective and called for stronger coordination among students, administration, healthcare institutions, civil society organisations and youth groups.

“A major goal is to make the University of Jammu campus and other educational institutions drug-free,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor directed that the documentary be screened in every department of the University of Jammu and shared with other educational institutions across the Jammu division.

He said the initiative would help carry the message of healthy youth, empowered society and a drug-free Jammu Kashmir to a wider audience.

The event was attended by Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu; Prof. J.P. Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies; Prof. Sangita Gupta, Dean Planning and Development; Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Registrar, besides Heads of Departments, faculty members and students of the University of Jammu.(KNC)
