JAMMU APRIL 28:–In a Public Interest Litigation bearing WP© PIL No. 06/2022 titled Ashok Kumar Sharma V/S UT of J&K and Ors, the Division Bench of hon’ble Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court Justice Rahul Bharti closed the PIL with the expectation that the work of Kallar-Potha Motorable bridge over Rajouri Tawi will be completed within the time frame i.e August, 2024 without any undue delay.
The PIL was filed by Advocate Ashok Kumar Sharma, former legislator for construction of motorable bridge over Rajouri Tawi at Kallar-Potha which was washed away in 2014’s flood affecting a large number of population forcing local population to travel a distance of 20-40 Kms extra each day for remaining in connection with their day to day activities i.e Schools, jobs, market etc. Earlier also several assurances were made by the government authorities, when the locals of the affected areas blocked the national highway and thereafter issuance of tender notice for completion of work within 12 months but no work was executed on ground.
Mr. Nakul Sharma, Advocate appeared on behalf of petitioner, whereas, Mr. S.S Nanda, Sr. AAG while appearing on behalf of PWD department relied upon communication of Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B) Division, Rajouri vide No. EER/R&B/02/2024-25/316-20 dated 23-04-2024 which states that the work of right side approach road is in progress and completed upto 80% and the expected date of completion of approach road is August, 2024. The hon’ble division bench further grant liberty to the petitioner to approach the hon’ble Court if the cause survives.
