JAMMU, MAY 29:-In a major display of political commitment and humanitarian response, Jammu & Kashmir Minister for Forests and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, emerged as the “News of the Day” after personally reaching out to families affected by the recent demolition drive in Sidhra, Jammu.

Soon after the demolition of several kullahs and temporary shelters in Bandhi Sidhra by the Jammu administration, Rana visited the affected site, interacted with distressed families and assured them of full rehabilitation and justice.

During his visit, the affected residents informed the Minister that many families possessed valid revenue documents related to the land, but their claims were allegedly ignored during the demolition process.

Expressing serious concern over the incident, Rana stated that no family with legitimate documents should face such hardship.

“The affected families will be fully rehabilitated and an inquiry is being initiated into the entire matter. Anyone found responsible for excesses or negligence will be held accountable,” Rana asserted.

Setting an example of prompt governance and compassionate leadership, Rana fulfilled several promises within hours of his visit. Water supply to the affected area was restored, tents were arranged for displaced families and ration was provided to the victims whose kullahs were demolished during the drive.

The Minister also assured the victims that essential facilities, including electricity, drinking water and food supplies, are being ensured at the rehabilitation site to maintain dignified living conditions until permanent arrangements are made.

Paying tribute to the affected tribal community, Rana said the Gujjar and Bakerwal communities have served the nation with distinction and remain custodians of the rich pastoral and cultural heritage of the Jammu region. He emphasized that protecting their dignity, rights and livelihoods is the collective responsibility of every institution.

Raising broader administrative concerns, Rana observed that such unfortunate incidents are often linked to the prevailing dual governance structure in Jammu & Kashmir, which sometimes creates gaps in coordination and accountability.

However, he clarified that he has personally taken up the issue with both the Lieutenant Governor’s administration and the elected government to ensure justice for the affected families.

Rana reiterated that the government is committed to preventing such incidents in future and assured that no stone will be left unturned in safeguarding the rights, dignity and rehabilitation of the affected citizens.
