ANANTNAG JUNE 30:-In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Anantnag Police arrested an alleged inter-district drug smuggler and seized 2.613 kilograms of heroin (brown sugar), estimated to be worth around ₹20 crore in the international market.
According to police, the recovery was made during routine naka checking at Halmulla, where a police team intercepted a suspicious Ignis car bearing registration number JK09B-2808 for inspection. During the search of the vehicle, officers recovered four packets containing heroin (brown sugar).
The accused has been identified as Ishtiyak Ahmad Moghal, son of Abdul Rasheed Moghal, a resident of Prada, Tangdar.
Following the seizure, FIR No. 195/2026 was registered under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act, and investigation was immediately taken up.
Police said that during the investigation, the accused was served a notice under Section 50 of the NDPS Act, following which his personal search was conducted in accordance with legal procedures.
Police have termed the seizure a significant success in their ongoing campaign against narcotics and stated that further investigation is underway to trace the backward and forward links of the drug trafficking network and identify other individuals involved.
