RAJOURI APRIL 17:-Senior PDP leader Mohd Farooq Inqlabi has strongly criticized the recent visit of the House Committee to Rajouri district in connection with the inspection of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) schemes, terming the exercise as superficial and meaningless.
In a statement issued here, Inqlabi said that the committee failed to assess the actual ground realities and instead confined its visit to easily accessible areas of the district. The purpose of such visits is defeated when the committee limits itself to nearby locations, engages in routine formalities, and returns without conducting a thorough and honest inspection, he remarked.

He further alleged that the committee members spent their time in select areas and held routine engagements, including a lunch halt at a local hotel, before returning to Jammu, without addressing the pressing concerns of the people living in far-flung regions.
Inqlabi emphasized that the real picture of the Jal Jeevan Mission can only be understood by visiting remote and underserved areas such as Tehsil Khawas, Kotranka, and Budhal. These regions have witnessed a complete failure of the JJM scheme. Despite the allocation of substantial funds, there is little to no improvement on the ground, raising serious questions about the utilization of resources, he stated.

He further criticized the committee for relying solely on official briefings, stating that the members held meetings with officers of the Jal Shakti Department to seek feedback. When the very officers responsible for the implementation of the scheme are themselves allegedly involved in corruption and mismanagement, how can their feedback be considered credible or sufficient for assessment? he questioned.

He called upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take serious note of the situation and ensure accountability. He urged that a fresh and comprehensive visit be conducted in the neglected areas to assess the actual status of the schemes.

Inqlabi added that in many rural areas, the labourers who worked on these JJM schemes are still awaiting their payments, which reflects administrative negligence and deepens public distress.

A transparent and impartial assessment is essential to identify lapses, fix responsibility, and ensure that public funds are used effectively for the welfare of the people, Inqlabi added.

The senior leader reiterated that the people of these backward regions continue to suffer due to lack of proper water supply infrastructure, and demanded immediate corrective measures to address the failures of the scheme.
