SRINAGAR MARCH 28:-The Government today reiterated its commitment to further strengthening the irrigation network in Khansahib constituency, stating that extensive works undertaken over the past three years have ensured that canals, khuls and irrigation infrastructure remain robust and fully functional.
Cabinet Minister Javed Rana informed the house that all major irrigation canals in the constituency remained operational during the last irrigation season, ensuring uninterrupted water supply to farmers.
He further said that a comprehensive package of works has been executed under multiple schemes between 2023–24 and 2025–26. The Minister was replying to a question raised by MLA Khansahib, Saifuddin Bhat regarding the upgradation of irrigation facilities in the constituency.
The Minister added that during 2023–24, works worth 62.68 lakh were taken up, of which 50.59 lakh have been utilized, with all projects achieving full physical completion. In 2024–25, works amounting to 31.28 lakh were undertaken, with 22.83 lakh expended and all projects completed. For the ongoing financial year 2025–26, works worth 54.62 lakh have been initiated, with 46.74 lakh already utilized, while the remaining works are at various stages of progress.
The executed works include construction of guide walls, restoration and lining of canals, strengthening of vulnerable spots, plugging of leakages and development of irrigation channels across key locations including Zani Canal, Lani Canal, Suresh Canal, Gogaldara Khul and Maninar Khul, among others.
The Government further highlighted that major projects such as Lad-Shanger Canal and Kenz Khul have been completed under NABARD funding, significantly enhancing irrigation capacity and resilience in the constituency.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Government stated that sustained investments and targeted interventions are being undertaken to modernize irrigation infrastructure, protect agricultural productivity and mitigate flood risks in Khansahib.
Providing details of major irrigation projects under NABARD, Languishing and PMKSY schemes, the Government informed that Kenz Khul and Lad-Shanger have been fully completed. Suresh Khul, Maninar Khul and Gogaldara Khul have achieved 100% physical progress under PMKSY. Now Khul has reached an advanced stage with 87% progress, while work on Malla Khul is ongoing with 35% progress.
