RAJOURI, APRIL 03:-Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri commemorated World Autism Awareness Day with a comprehensive programme at its Associated Hospital, Mehra Campus, highlighting the importance of awareness, early diagnosis, and inclusive care for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The event was held under the supervision of Principal Dr. A.S. Bhatia and organized by the Department of Medicine, led by Dr. Jamil Ul Hussain. The initiative aimed to sensitize both medical professionals and the general public about the need for timely identification and holistic management of autism.
An academic session formed the core of the programme, during which MBBS students delivered detailed presentations on early symptoms, diagnostic approaches, and treatment strategies for ASD. This was followed by expert talks by Dr. Parvaiz Alam and Dr. Shuja Qadri, who emphasized early intervention and the creation of a supportive and inclusive environment for affected individuals.
Dr. Harleen Kour, who was also present on the occasion, appreciated the institution’s efforts in promoting awareness and fostering empathy towards individuals with autism.
The programme later transitioned into a cultural segment, graced by Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma (IAS) along with Sheraz Ul Haq. The dignitaries lauded GMC Rajouri for addressing a critical public health issue through such meaningful initiatives.
Adding vibrancy to the event, noted singer Bishan Das captivated the audience with a soulful musical performance.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Jamil Ul Hussain, who acknowledged the contributions of faculty members, students, and organizers. The event underscored the importance of awareness, acceptance, and inclusivity in building a compassionate society for individuals with autism.
