RAJOURI, MARCH 10:- A large garbage dump near Government PG College Rajouri along the Chowdharynar Road has sparked serious health and sanitation concerns among local residents and students. The waste, reportedly being dumped near the college boundary wall and into a nearby drain, has created unhygienic conditions in the area frequently used by students and pedestrians.
According to local sources, some chicken and meat shopkeepers are allegedly disposing of animal waste and other garbage along the college boundary. The garbage dumping site falls in Ward No. 6 of Panchayat Dhanore Jarallan, located close to the boundary of Ward No. 17 of Rajouri Municipality, which has reportedly created confusion regarding sanitation responsibility.
Residents said the foul smell and accumulation of waste have made it difficult for people to pass through the road safely. The situation has further worsened as stray dogs gather around the dumped meat waste, posing a potential threat to pedestrians and students travelling to and from the college.
Locals fear that if the garbage is not removed immediately, pedestrians and commuters passing through the road may face serious health risks and the possible spread of diseases due to the unhygienic environment.
Social activist Mushtaq Bhat criticised the situation and said that the Rural Development Department had already provided dustbins in villages, but improper waste disposal practices are continuing, leading to the wastage of public funds and creating sanitation problems.
Residents and commuters have appealed to Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma to take urgent notice of the issue and ensure immediate removal of the garbage to prevent further inconvenience and health hazards.
While highlighting the issue, members of the public also appreciated the efforts of the Deputy Commissioner in addressing public grievances and expressed hope that the administration will soon take action to resolve the matter and maintain cleanliness around the educational institution and adjoining road.
