Failure to submit bills on time leads to fund lapse; inquiry and accountability demanded
GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL
RAJOURI MARCH 29:-In a development that has raised serious concerns over administrative functioning, an amount of nearly ₹72 lakh has reportedly lapsed in Darhal Block of Rajouri district due to the alleged failure of the concerned department to submit bills to the treasury within the stipulated timeframe.
According to sources, the funds—earmarked for various developmental works and public welfare initiatives—could not be utilized before the close of the financial year, resulting in their automatic lapse. The incident is being viewed as a case of negligence and poor financial management.
Local residents have expressed strong resentment, stating that the lapse of such a significant amount will adversely affect ongoing and proposed development works in the area. They alleged that timely action by the officials could have prevented the loss and ensured proper utilization of the funds.
Sources further claimed that delays in processing and submission of bills disrupted the execution process, ultimately leading to the lapse. The development has sparked a debate on accountability within the administration.
Civil society members and locals have demanded a transparent inquiry into the matter and strict action against those found responsible, to avoid recurrence of such incidents.
Official Response Awaited:
Efforts are being made to obtain confirmation from the District Information Office and a formal statement from the concerned department. However, no official clarification has been issued so far. Authorities are expected to seek an explanation from the officials involved.
