POONCH, MAY 15:- The Department of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS), Poonch, successfully organised Inter-School Zonal Level Competitions across Surankote, Nangali and Bufliaz zones under the banner of the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, promoting sportsmanship, youth empowerment, physical fitness and social awareness among students.
The competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of students, reflecting the department’s continued commitment towards building a healthy, disciplined and drug-free society through sports and youth engagement.
At Zone Surankote, Under-19 Boys competitions were held at HS Sanai School under the supervision of the Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZPEO), Surankote. Around 211 students participated in disciplines including Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Badminton, Chess, Yoga and Athletics. The event showcased exceptional talent, discipline and team spirit among participants.
Simultaneously, Zone Nangali successfully conducted Under-14 and Under-17 Boys competitions under the supervision of the ZPEO Nangali, where nearly 480 students participated in various sports activities. The competitions highlighted the growing interest and enthusiasm among young athletes in the district.
Likewise, Under-19 Girls competitions were organised in Zone Bufliaz under the supervision of the ZPEO Bufliaz, with nearly 134 girls taking part enthusiastically in different games.
One of the major highlights of the programme was a massive awareness rally organised under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which witnessed participation from nearly 4,801 individuals. Participants raised slogans promoting a drug-free society and spread awareness regarding the harmful effects of drug abuse, while encouraging youth to adopt healthy and disciplined lifestyles through sports.
In addition, Family Sports Celebrations were also organised across different zones of Poonch district, with nearly 254 participants taking part enthusiastically.
The department also conducted several awareness activities focusing on humanitarian values, public welfare, discipline and social responsibility. A pledge ceremony was held where participants reaffirmed their commitment towards fair play, sportsmanship and the vision of a drug-free society.
The entire programme is being conducted under the guidance of Anuradha Gupta and supervision of Megha Bhogia. At the district level, the events are being efficiently organised under the leadership of Mohd Qasim, while Vijay Kumar Sharma is overseeing the smooth conduct of all activities.
Officials stated that the initiative not only promotes sports culture and physical fitness but also provides a platform for identifying talented players for higher-level competitions at district, divisional and Union Territory levels.
The successful conduct of these competitions across various zones of Poonch district stands as a strong example of DYSS Poonch’s dedication towards youth development, promotion of sports culture and the mission of creating a healthy and drug-free society.
