It is pertinent to mention here that on April 10 at about 6.30 pm inhabitants of Badi Makri village-situated ahead of fence in Nowshera subdivision of Rajouri district- have
nabbed three cross LoC narcotics smugglers, all residents of the same village.
A village Committee, including VDC members, was formed to keep surveillance on the activities of some persons having links across the LoC & are involved in narcotic smuggling.
A member of this committee on Wednesday intercepted one of the smugglers namely Sukhvinder s/o Babu Ram and his minor brother coming from LoC side carrying a bag.
On enquiry about the bag, Sukhvinder first attempted to flee and then offered a huge money to committee members to let them go but the offer was denied by the committee member.
On this, a physical scuffle took place between them which was later joined by other two smugglers and committee members.
Apprehending trouble, all the four smugglers fled from the spot leaving behind the bag carrying about 8.5 kgs of heroin-like substance.
The bag was handed over to the police in the presence of Army and police accordingly lodged a case under sections 8/21/23 NDPS Act (FIR 36/2024) and under the overall supervision of SSP Rajouri, Amritpal Singh IPS, and under supervision of SDPO Nowshera, Jaswant Singh started further investigation.
At about midnight on April 10, police team headed by SHO Nowshera Sumit Magotra and assisted by in-charge police post Bhawani, carried out several raids in the village and nabbed all the three smugglers identified as Sukhvinder Singh, Naveen Kumar son of Moti Ram, and Davinder @Munna son of Rajesh Kumar.
SSP said during questioning all the three accused persons admitted their involvement in commission of crime.
“On the disclosure of the accused, the police on Friday recovered from them a heroin- like narcotic substance weighing 1.44 KGs and also seized three vehicles used by these persons as conveyance in commission of crime,” police said.
The vehicles include Dumper bearing Regd No. JK11G 8174, Motorcycle bearing Regt No. JK11C 3442, and Load Carrier (Mini Goods carrier vehicle) bearing regd. No. JK11C – 9644.
Further investigation in the case is going on and all forward and backward linkages shall be identified and dealt strictly within the ambit of law.
“Rajouri Police is working on a multi prolonged strategy to deal with the problem of drug abuse. On one hand awareness programs about drug abuse are being organized in every nook and corner of the district and on the other hand drug peddlers are being booked under PITNDPS Act on a regular basis,” said SSP.
“There is no space for drug peddlers in Rajouri district. Either they shun the path of spoiling our generation and return to the mainstream or they will be dealt with Iron hand,” said SSP to the drug peddler.
