COVID19:District administration Rajouri distributes free ration among the beneficiaries at Atti village under PMGKAY

Rajouri,April,19:In order to ensure that no one sleeps hungry in the district during countrywide lockdown amid COVID19,the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Mohammad Nazir Sheikh today distributed free ration for the month of April to poor and needy souls here at Atti village of district Rajouri under Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalayan Anna Yojana.

Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalayan Anna Yojana is a central government scheme launched during the lockdown period amid COVID19.It aims at distributing 5 kg food grains per soul and one kg pulses per family for three months.This is over and above the monthly quota of subsidised foodgrain of 5 kg per person under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

Speaking on the occasion the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri,Mohammad Nazir Sheikh said that the initiative is a recognition of the need for support and an attempt to reach out to impoverished residents of the district.He also said that the process of the distribution of free ration for the month of April under PMGKAY shall be completed by 28th of April,2020.He added that district administration Rajouri has already taken a number of steps to ensure that no one in the district sleeps hungry during this period.

Deputy Commissioner added that every possible effort is being made to provide all the basic facilities to the common masses at their doorsteps so that they don’t face any difficulty in their daily life in these days.He said that district administration Rajouri is working tirelessly to ensure that enough foodgrain stocks are made available in every part of the district during the countrywide lockdown to mitigate the sufferings of the common masses.

Assistant Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs informed that there are 101927 families comprising 406673 souls of PHH and AAY to be covered under PMGKY.He said the distribution of free ration for the month of May and June under the Scheme will commence from 28th of April.

The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Additional Superintendent of Police Liaqat Choudhary, Assistant Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumers y Mukhtar Ahmed lone, District Information Officer Rajouri Narinder Raina, Sarpanch panchayt Atti and other officials of CAPD Department.
