**Says ‘No Collective Punishment Before Ramadan,’ Warns of Legal Action**
RAJOURI FEBRUARY 18:-Former Minister and BJP State Vice President Choudhary Zulfiqar Ali has strongly condemned the disconnection of electricity supply to several villages in Rajouri district over alleged revenue recovery issues, terming the move “deeply unfortunate and unjust,” particularly on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan.
In a strongly worded statement, Zulfiqar Ali expressed serious concern over the action taken by the Power Development Department, especially the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) in Rajouri, for disconnecting electricity to entire villages at a time when residents are preparing for the sacred month.
He said such collective action has caused immense hardship to innocent families, emphasizing that electricity is an essential service, especially during Ramadan when households depend on uninterrupted power for Sehri and Iftar preparations.
Calling for immediate intervention, the former minister urged the district administration and the concerned department to restore electricity supply to the affected areas without any further delay.
“If any individual is a defaulter, strict action should be taken against that person in accordance with the law. However, entire villages must not be punished for the fault of a few. Collective punishment is unjust and unacceptable,” he asserted.
Zulfiqar Ali further warned that if the department fails to rectify the situation promptly, he would be compelled to approach the Hon’ble High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh to seek appropriate and stringent action against the officials responsible.
The issue has triggered concern among local residents, who have appealed to the authorities to resolve the matter at the earliest in view of the approaching holy month of Ramadan.
