Farooq Inqilabi Slams Officials Over Road Negligence in Khawas, Cites Widespread Corruption

    GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

RAJOURI AUGUST 14:-The people of Khawas Tehsil continue to suffer due to the extremely poor condition of roads, which become completely unusable even after light rainfall. Local residents report that all link roads are regularly blocked, making transportation impossible and severely affecting daily life across the region.

The worst affected villages include Gunda, Kotcharwal, Gundi, Narla Bambal, Gadyog, Beinambal, Dhaleri, Keri Bhella, Badhal, Dharamsal, and some other areas. Residents of these areas face severe difficulties accessing medical services, schools, and markets due to the poor road infrastructure.

Senior PDP leader Mohammad Farooq Inqilabi voiced strong criticism of the current state of affairs, stating:

“This is sheer injustice to the public. If roads get blocked after just a little rain, it reflects substandard work and rampant corruption. The Kotranka to Khawas main road remains closed for days, isolating entire communities. There is a full-blown system of bribery at work—contractors are paid without doing proper work, and officials turn a blind eye.”

He demanded urgent intervention from the administration and accountability of those responsible for this negligence. Inqilabi also called for an independent audit of the road construction works carried out in the region.

“If corrective measures are not taken immediately,” he warned, “the people will have no choice but to protest on the streets for their basic right to mobility.”

**Deceased’s family alleges husband killed wife and son, demands FIR for double murder**

**Husband, a serving soldier, was traced in Jammu hours after the incident**

RAJOURI AUGUST 13:-In a tragic and suspicious incident in the remote Khawas area of Kotranka Subdivision, Rajouri district, a mother and her two-year-old son lost their lives in what was initially reported as a car accident. However, the absence of visible injuries on the bodies and the undamaged condition of the vehicle have cast serious doubt on the nature of the deaths.
Sources said the incident occurred when serving soldier Baljit Singh, a resident of Khawas who was on leave, was returning home with his wife Lalita Devi and their son Krish Thakur from her parental home in nearby Phangar village.
Initial accounts suggested that heavy rains caused the car to skid off the road into a 30-foot-deep gorge. Despite the fall, the car reportedly suffered no damage. Villagers and police who rushed to the scene found only the bodies of Lalita Devi and her child — Baljit Singh was missing. The bodies were recovered after police broke the car’s door glass.
Hours later, Baljit was traced to a hospital in Jammu. How he reached there and who assisted him remains under police investigation
Today, Lalita Devi’s maternal uncle, joined by family members in a public protest, alleged that Baljit had murdered his wife and son in a premeditated conspiracy. “With help from unidentified persons, Baljit first killed them and then pushed the car into the gorge. The vehicle was stopped by a tree and remains in good condition. If the car is safe, how did the mother and child die? He had illicit relations with another woman in the area,” he claimed in a viral video.
The protestors, in the presence of senior police officers, demanded that an FIR for double murder be registered against Baljit Singh.
As news of the deaths spread, a large number of Lalita Devi’s relatives gathered in Khawas and staged demonstrations, insisting that it was a case of planned murder, not an accident. They highlighted the lack of damage to the vehicle as evidence supporting their claims.
The bodies were initially shifted to the Community Health Center at Khawas and later moved to the Community Health Center at Kalakote. Following allegations of murder, they were referred to the Associated Hospital GMC Rajouri, where a special medical board conducted post-mortem examinations.
Police have assured the family that a thorough investigation is underway, exploring every angle. “If foul play is involved, the truth will come to light,” officials stated.
After medico-legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to the family for last rites, and the police reportedly started an investigation under Section 106 BN

Damaged Bridge Cuts Off Key Connectivity, Residents Face Daily Struggles.Tanveer Iqbal Qureshi.

MENDHAR AUGUST 13:-Social and political activist Tanveer Iqbal Qureshi has called upon the district administration to expedite the restoration of the vital footbridge in Mohallah Dhera, Chhatral village, which was severely damaged a month ago during a flood-like situation triggered by heavy rainfall.

The damaged bridge, according to Qureshi, is a crucial lifeline connecting several villages, including Chhatral, Narol, Chack Banola, and Cross, enabling residents to commute for education, employment, agriculture, and essential daily activities. The collapse has left hundreds of residents, including students, employees, and farmers, struggling to cross the area safely, forcing them to take longer, unsafe routes.
Highlighting the public inconvenience and safety hazards, Qureshi expressed deep concern over the delay in restoration. “This bridge is not merely a physical structure; it is the sole link for thousands of people to access schools, offices, markets, and farmlands. Its absence has disrupted lives, increased travel hardships, and exposed residents to potential dangers while crossing the river,” he stated.
Qureshi urged the authorities to prioritize the reconstruction work, stressing that the prolonged inaction reflects poorly on administrative efficiency. “The people of this region have already suffered enough due to geographical challenges and limited infrastructure. The administration must act with urgency and ensure that the bridge is restored at the earliest to bring relief to the affected communities,” he added.
Local residents have echoed Qureshi’s sentiments, appealing for immediate government intervention. Many fear that with the monsoon season approaching, further delays could worsen the situation, making the area inaccessible during emergencies.
Qureshi reaffirmed his commitment to continue raising the issue until the bridge is rebuilt, ensuring that the voice of the people of Chhatral and its adjoining villages is heard loud and clear.
