RAJOURI SEPT 08:-The decade from 2008 to 2018 indeed represents one of the most troubled times for the people of Darhal Constituency, as highlighted by allegations against Zulfkar Ali Choudhary.
Elected in 2008, Zulfkar’s tenure was expected to bring prosperity due to his political lineage, yet the result was widespread disillusionment.
As the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD), and Education Minister he allegedly engaged in severe corruption, involving scams that amounted to thousands of crores, damaging public trust. One of the most concerning issues was the misuse of CAPD funds meant to provide essential services. Furthermore, as Education Minister, the accusations of constructing substandard schools led to unsafe learning conditions, forcing children to study outdoors in many areas.
In the tribal regions of Budhal, where trust in Zulfkar ran deep due to his father’s reputation as an honest & four-times MLA, there was particular betrayal. Zulafqar is accused of siphoning off funds allocated for tribal welfare, leaving the marginalized tribals, already struggling, in worse conditions.
It is also alleged that Zulafqar used these misappropriated funds to buy properties abroad through benami transactions, amassing vast amounts of wealth. His subsequent political moves, including joining the BJP in 2024, are seen by many as attempts to escape investigations into his corrupt activities.
Abdul Rouf Malik, an independent candidate from Budhal Constituency, has repeatedly raised these issues, urging the Enforcement Directorate to investigate Zulfkar’s illicit wealth and return the stolen funds to the public. For the people of Darhal and Budhal, Zulafqar Ali’s decade-long “golden period” is remembered as one of darkness, betrayal, and corruption.
The call for justice is loud, and the people are demanding accountability, urging the authorities to act swiftly and bring back the wealth that rightfully belongs to the public.
