RAJOURI, JUNE 09:– Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri administration has reportedly suspended two staff members in connection with the death of a woman patient, Nusrat Jahan, whose demise has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over healthcare standards at the institution.
According to family members, Nusrat Jahan had been admitted to the Gynecology Department of GMC Rajouri a few days ago. Her husband alleged that her condition deteriorated after she was administered a wrong injection, following which she was shifted to a ventilator in critical condition.
The patient’s relatives had earlier staged protests inside the hospital premises, accusing the doctors and medical staff of negligence when her health worsened. Despite medical intervention, Nusrat Jahan passed away, triggering fresh protests and demands for accountability.
Family members and several local residents have demanded registration of an FIR against those found responsible for the alleged negligence. They have urged the administration and the government to conduct a fair and transparent inquiry and take strict action under the relevant provisions of law if any lapses are established.
The incident has once again brought GMC Rajouri under public scrutiny, with critics alleging a decline in the institution’s credibility and raising questions about patient safety and accountability within the healthcare system.
The case has also revived memories of a recent controversy involving social activist Feroz Khan, who had raised concerns regarding the treatment of a woman patient in the Gynecology Department of GMC Rajouri. Following protests by the Resident Doctors Association, an FIR was registered against the activist only on the recommendation of Chief Medical Officer Rajouri, after which the doctors withdrew their agitation.
Residents and social activists have questioned whether similar urgency will now be shown in investigating the allegations surrounding the death of Nusrat Jahan. Several organizations and members of the public have called upon the government to ensure an impartial probe and provide justice to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, the suspension of two staff members by the GMC Rajouri administration is being viewed as a preliminary step pending further investigation into the circumstances that led to the patient’s death.
The administration has yet to issue a detailed public statement regarding the findings of the inquiry. The family of the deceased continues to seek justice, while public pressure mounts for a thorough investigation and accountability at all levels.
