RAJOURI MAY 12:-Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic (Rural) Jammu, Farooq Qaiser, on Tuesday concluded an extensive three-day tour of the Rajouri–Poonch region aimed at reviewing the prevailing traffic management system, road safety measures, and overall traffic scenario across the twin border districts.
During the tour, the SSP Traffic conducted multiple inspections, interaction programmes, and awareness campaigns with a special focus on road safety education and accident prevention.
As part of the initiative, two major Road Safety Awareness Programmes were organised at educational institutions in Thanamandi and Budhal to educate students and the public about responsible driving and traffic discipline.
One programme was held at Government Model Higher Secondary School Boys Thanamandi and was attended by Vice Principal Amjad Islam, teaching staff, local residents, and nearly 100 students. Another large-scale awareness event was organised at Government Higher Secondary School Samote Budhal in Budhal, where Principal Khaliq Choudhary, school staff, SHO Budhal, Traffic officials, and around 350 students participated.
Addressing the gatherings, SSP Traffic Farooq Qaiser highlighted the role and responsibilities of Traffic Police and strongly warned against minor driving, stating that the law now holds parents and guardians accountable for allowing underage driving.
Participants were urged to strictly follow traffic regulations, avoid stunt driving, wear protective gear, and adopt safe driving practices to reduce road accidents.
The students and participants were also sensitized about several important road accident relief schemes including the PM RAHAT Scheme-2026, Hit & Run Motor Accident Compensation Scheme-2022, and J&K Road Accident Victims Fund Rules-2022, which provide compensation and free medical treatment to accident victims. Awareness was also created regarding the “Good Samaritans” initiative aimed at encouraging timely assistance to accident victims during the crucial golden hour.
During the tour, SSP Traffic also reviewed the road condition and traffic management scenario on the historic Mughal Road. Sites of recent fatal accidents were personally inspected and analyzed to identify safety gaps and risk factors. Officials stated that necessary measures to improve passenger safety and strengthen traffic regulation on the road will soon be initiated in coordination with the concerned departments.
In addition, SSP Traffic held interaction sessions with Traffic Police personnel deployed across the region, including a detailed review meeting at DPL Rajouri. Officers and officials were directed to ensure strict enforcement against traffic violators and to intensify road safety measures for safeguarding public lives.
