SRINAGAR FEBRUARY 23:-Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the 6th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games at the scenic ski resort of Gulmarg amid much enthusiasm and patriotic fervour.
The grand opening ceremony was marked by colourful cultural performances and a spectacular display of the national tricolour against the snow-clad mountains, reflecting the spirit of unity and national pride. Senior officials, sportspersons, security personnel and distinguished guests were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor described the Winter Games as a celebration of the nation’s sporting legacy and its enduring unity. He said the mega winter sports event highlights the transformative power of sports that binds every citizen and athlete, igniting their drive and forging unbreakable character.
He further observed that the Khelo India Winter Games revive the ideals of peace, equality and camaraderie that define the true spirit of sports. In a diverse nation of multiple languages, cultures and traditions, he said, the Winter Games at Gulmarg serve as a universal language and shared heritage.
Athletes from various States and Union Territories are participating in different winter sports disciplines, showcasing their talent and competitive excellence on snow and ice.
Organised under the aegis of the Sports Authority of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the event aims to promote winter sports and provide a national platform to budding athletes while further strengthening Gulmarg’s reputation as a premier winter sports destination.
