RAJOURI, JUNE 14:–World Blood Donor Day-2022, with the theme ‘Donating blood is an act of solidarity, Join the effort and save lives’, was celebrat xed at GMC Rajouri, BGSB University (BGSBU Rajouri) Nursing College (at Jammu), and in the Community Health Center at Kotranka in Kandi Health Block on Tuesday.
At Government Medical College & Associated Hospital (GMC&AH) Rajouri World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) was celebrated in the Department of Transfusion Medicine by Dr. Irem Yasmine, in-charge HoD, Transfusion Medicine under the supervision of Dr. Shashi Sudan, Principal, GMC and the function was chaired by Dr.(Prof.) Vijay Gupta, HoD ENT and also officiating Principal GMC.
The Doctors and Health Care Workers voluntarily donated blood on this occasion while the regular
Blood donors were also felicitated in the function.
A blood donation camp was also organised in collaboration with 59 Batallion BSF at Sunderbani in which 40 pints of blood were donated by the BSF Jawans.
“This day focuses on drawing attention to the importance of donating blood. It was first initiated in 2004 by the World Health Organisation (WHO)” said Dr. Mehmood Hussain Bajar, Medical Superintendent, GMC&AH.
“The importance and urgency to donate blood has more significantly increased since the Covid-19 pandemic. As the lack of donated blood becomes more worrying, it is important to understand how one help can” he added.
Before you donate blood, you are encouraged to do proper research to identify whether or not you are fit to donate blood. These restrictions are necessary to ensure the blood transfusion is safe for the donor as well as the receiver and should not be taken lightly, he further said.
Dr. Irem Yasmine, appealed to the people for regular blood donation to ensure the availability of blood in the blood bank 24X7 for the needy.
‘World Blood Donor Day’ was also celebrated by the Health Department Kotranka to raise awareness about the need for regular voluntary blood donations.
The event was organised under the supervision of Dr. Iqbal Malik, BMO on the directions of Director Health Services Jammu Dr. Saleem Ur Rehman and Dr Hamid Zarger CMO Rajouri.
The day marks an opportunity to thank blood donors for their act of saving lives through voluntary blood donations.
Dr Iqbal Malik said that “Blood donations is one of the most significant contributions one can make towards their society as it helps in saving lives” said Dr.Iqbal Malik.
Mohd Ayoub Lone CHO Kandi said that “There is no harm in donating blood. It doesn’t cause any weakness. Blood donation is healthy as human blood is continuously regenerated” said Mohd Ayoub Lone, CHO, Kandi.
“Health teams have been deployed to raise awareness among school children. The teams have conducted blood grouping of the children in various schools and also given information about blood donation” said Dr. Farooq Mir, Medical Officer.
Health experts cleared various myths surrounding blood donation and motivated people to come forward for voluntary blood donation to save lives.
Students and Staff of BGSBU, College of Nursing (Jammu) also celebrated World Blood Donor Day. Students and faculty of the college participated in an event Day organised at Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Prof. Akbar Masood, VC, BGSBU emphasized the need for regular blood donation which is crucial to saving human life during medical emergencies.
Prof. Akbar encouraged the participants to take a pledge to donate their blood and give a gift of life to others as this single gesture can create a million smiles.
“This day raises awareness of the need for safe blood to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood,” said Prof. Masood.
Students and staff of the Nursing College Jammu voluntarily donated blood for people who need blood in emergencies.
The event was supervised by Dr. Titi Xavier, Associate Dean, Nursing Colleges BGSBU and coordinated by Pushpendra Kumar, Principal of BGSBU, College of Nursing, Jammu.
