JAMMU FEBRUARY 04:-The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday witnessed strong protests and a major uproar after Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma allegedly made derogatory and provocative remarks against the Pir Panjal region.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, along with MLAs Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Javed Choudhary, Akram Choudhary, Ijaz Jan, and other elected representatives from Rajouri and Poonch, united across party lines to condemn the statement. The legislators strongly objected to the remarks, calling them irresponsible and insulting to the people of Pir Panjal.
Raising slogans and staging a coordinated protest inside the House, the MLAs asserted that the dignity, identity, and democratic rights of the Pir Panjal region are non-negotiable. They warned that any attempt to malign the region or undermine its people would be firmly resisted at every forum.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary took a strong stand and demanded an immediate and unconditional apology from the Leader of the Opposition, both to the Assembly and to the people of Pir Panjal. He categorically stated that any insult to the region and its people would not be tolerated.
The incident led to heated scenes in the Assembly, highlighting growing political tensions over regional respect and representation.
