RAJOURI DEC 03:-In a bid to reduce congestion and streamline traffic, the Municipal Council and administration issued an order on Friday prohibiting passenger vehicle stands from operating on roads. Instead, designated stands have been set up at the New Bus Station, Bela Bus Station, and the Old Bus Station. Despite this directive, many stands continued to function on the roads, prompting the traffic police to take stringent action.
The District Traffic Inspector (DTI) took matters into his own hands, personally visiting affected areas to remove unauthorized stands operating on the roads. He also confiscated vehicles parked at these illegal stands. The DTI emphasized that no vehicle should be parked on the roads, warning that any future violations would result in strict penalties.
Local residents had previously mocked such orders, citing past instances where similar regulations had been issued but not effectively enforced. However, the current traffic police crackdown aims to change that perception. On Monday, DTI Inspector Manzoor Ahmed Kohli conducted an operation at Panja Chowk, where he confiscated all passenger vehicles parked in the area. He made it clear to drivers and stand operators that they must park at the designated New Bus Station and refrain from using Panja Chowk as a stand.
“We are strictly implementing the administration’s order,” said Kohli. “The vehicles parked in the Panja Chowk area have been seized, and drivers have been informed that their designated stand is at the New Bus Station. Any vehicle found parked in this area will be immediately confiscated, and action will be taken against both the driver and the owner.”
Kohli further explained that similar actions will be taken in the Salani Bridge area on Tuesday. The aim, he said, is to ease traffic congestion and make the city more navigable by enforcing this new order.
