CHENAB VALLEY NOV 10:-The telecommunications network in Bunjwah is currently in a state of significant disarray, leading to substantial disruption in the everyday lives of its residents. Despite a remarkable influx of crores from a variety of initiatives aimed at rolling out a 5G network in the region, frustration within the community shows no signs of abating. Major telecom giants, such as Jio and Airtel, continue to reap hefty profits, reporting net gains in the billions while consistently falling short of delivering the high-quality services they had prominently promised in their marketing campaigns.
Residents are beleaguered by frequent outages that can last several hours, spotty connectivity that leads to dropped calls and undelivered messages, and excruciatingly slow data speeds that can plummet to 2G levels during peak usage times. This lack of reliable service leaves them powerless to execute essential tasks such as connecting with loved ones, participating in crucial online education programs, and accessing vital information from government resources or health services.
Compounding this crisis is the relentless absence of a robust cable infrastructure; many areas remain dependent on outdated satellite technology or unreliable mobile hotspots, which dramatically impacts their internet connectivity. For instance, residents in hilly terrains often struggle with signal interruptions while trying to access important online services. This starkly highlights the shocking discrepancy between the companies’ extravagant promises of seamless connectivity and the harsh reality that the community confronts on a daily basis.
The Bunjwah region, which is home to a significant population, comprising approximately 10,000 subscribers on both Airtel and Jio networks, currently faces considerable challenges due to the inadequate availability of reliable network services. This issue is largely attributed to the lack of strategically placed cell towers in key areas such as Kither, Binoon, Qurar, Buddhar, Ikhwah, and Kewa. The thoughtful positioning of these towers is crucial for enhancing overall connectivity, as it would significantly alleviate the difficulties faced by everyday subscribers, resulting in clearer calls and faster data access. Moreover, infrastructure improvements would not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also benefit online network operators and Common Service Centres operating within Bunjwah, thus supporting local entrepreneurship and innovation.
This ongoing turmoil has fueled a wave of widespread discontent and a palpable sense of injustice among the community. Locals feel increasingly marginalised and neglected by these telecom behemoths, leading to heated discussions and protests demanding accountability and better service provision. There is a profound yearning for tangible improvements, as the Bunjwah community grapples with the striking disconnect between the substantial financial investments poured into the region and the subpar quality of service being provided. As calls for reform grow louder and more organised, residents are hoping for a telecom landscape that truly meets their needs, elevating their quality of life and ensuring that the benefits of advanced technology are felt by all, not just the privileged life.
