Technical Considerations Guide I&FC Sub-Division Boundaries, Says Government

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 12:- The Government today clarified that the jurisdiction of Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) Sub-Divisions is determined strictly on technical considerations and is independent of geographical or administrative boundaries of legislative constituencies.

This was stated by the Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, while replying to a question raised by MLA Kuldeep Raj Dubey in the Legislative Assembly. The Minister informed the House that although the I&FC Sub-Division, Reasi, falls geographically within the Reasi Constituency, its placement under the Mahore I&FC Division, Dharmari is based on technical requirements, including drainage patterns and operational feasibility.

Addressing concerns about supervision and coordination, the Government assured that the existing administrative arrangement is functioning smoothly, with no gaps in monitoring, no operational constraints, and no inconvenience to the public.

The Government further clarified that there is no proposal under consideration to merge the I&FC Sub-Division, Reasi, with the PHE Sub-Division, Reasi, stating that the present structure is aligned with established technical norms and operational needs.

Supplementary questions raised by Legislators Khurshied Ahmed and Sham Lal Sharma were also addressed satisfactorily by the Government.
